Glamorous Event at the Swedish Ambassador’s Residence in London

“We had the opportunity to visit some rooms of the Ambassador’s Residence and the pleasure to chat with the Ambassador, H E Mr Torbjörn Sohlström, and his staff, as well as with Chalmers’ President and CEO, Professor Stefan Bengtsson, who chaired the event.” - Michele Becce: UAA London Regional Group Coordinator.

The Swedish Ambassador’s Residence in the area of Marylebone was opened to the public on the 10th of November 2016, for a special event: a reunion of Chalmers alumni and their friends, consisting in a typical Swedish reception and a talk.

Huzaifa Essajee, a 2011 UNITECH alumnus who had his exchange in Chalmers, informed the Regional Group about the event.
We had the opportunity to visit some rooms of the Ambassador’s Residence and the pleasure to chat with the Ambassador, H E Mr Torbjörn Sohlström, and his staff, as well as with Chalmers’ President and CEO, Professor Stefan Bengtsson, who chaired the event. All this while enjoying delicious finger food and listening to a quartet singing typical songs in Swedish, as for the country’s traditions.

The convivial moment was followed by the talk “Moving the frontiers of technology into sports applications”, delivered by Professor Aleksandar Matic, Head of the Materials Science Area of Advance as well as the Sports and Technology Initiative, who gave an overview of many different research projects in which material science can be applied to improve athletes’ performances and/or provide them with better equipment.

The evening was concluded with a lottery, in which some of the participants were drawn to receive Chalmers merchandise, and some more informal networking conversations.

The event was a very pleasant occasion to know more about Chalmers and their research activities, as well as to engage in stimulating conversation and liaise with very interesting people.

The UNITECH Network’s always alive!
