Rhine-Main Sub-Chapter

Ten years after the first UNITECH students graduated, the UAA members are spread all over Europe and even the World. However, the Local UNITECH Chapters are still based in the cities of the Academic Partners. While this is a good way to introduce new members into the association, it makes it impossible for many of us to participate in local events. In Germany, the Rhine-Main region around Frankfurt and Mainz is the home of many Alumni. Most of them work at one of the Corporate Partners in the region, or at different companies and institutions.

The UAA constantly needs motivated people to work in the council or as LCCs. Because most council members were elected in 2009 for a two-year term, nearly every council position is up for vote. To ensure the continuity of the association's work, we decided to start this process well in advance and give all of you the chance to take this opportunity and become part of the council.

In between the Winter and the Summer Session and with the Annual Reunion approaching, the UAA Council met for the second time during this UNITECH year in order to discuss what has been done in the last months and to plan what is ahead of us. With respect to events, we decided on minor changes to the format of the Winter Session, which we will again organize next year. finalized the remaining details of the Summer Session spent most of our time on working out the responsibilities and logistics of the Annual Reunion in Gothenburg. LUC Netherlands welcome event

February 24, 2011: Delft

On Thursday the 24h of February, LUC Netherlands organised a welcome event for the UNITECH students who just arrived for their academic exchange. Nine people, including the three UNITECH exchange students, joined the evening and had dinner and drinks together in a local restaurant in Delft.

“Bridging Gaps” was the theme of the 2011 UAA Winter Session. More than 40 UNITECH Alumni and Corporate Partners met in Hamburg to discuss the question “How do you tackle differences in your daily work?”

LUC Germany Assessment Center Training

After promoting UNITECH at RWTH in November, the LUC Germany continued to support the UNITECH application process by offering an assessment center training to UNITECH applicants and its members. In front of round about 20 interested listeners Christian Wilms and Florian Garms presented general information about what are the goals of an assessment center and how that reflects on the tasks given to the participants.

As the snow fell heavy in Gothenburg, LUC Sweden met for a Christmas event, doing the traditional Swedish activities as baking lussebullar and drinking glögg.

LUC Switzerland: Visit of the Durchmesserlinie with Holcim

December 8th, 2010: Zurich

Together with our Corporate Partner Holcim, the Local UNITECH Chapter Switzerland visited one of the biggest and most complex construction sites in Switzerland, the new Durchmesserline in Zurich. With this project, Switzerland's main railway hub, Zurich main station, is extended by a few new subterranean train tracks.

LUC Sweden: Visit to SKF Göteborg

To learn more about the corporate partner SKF and to get the chance to walk in one of their bearing factories, LUC Sweden went to Gamlestan and the head quarter of SKF to meet Liesbeth van Haarlem and some of her colleagues at SKF in Gothenburg. Besides visiting the factory, we also learned how SKF works with sustainability and how they develop the company through their Manufacturing Excellence program.
