“Großartig!” This is how we will remember our visit of Evonik on the 23rd of September 2016.
Who are “we”? 10 Unitechers with different academic backgrounds who were kindly invited by Evonik to visit their R&D center in Germany: Creavis in Marl. For those to whom Evonik is only a vague name; Evonik is one of the world's leading specialty chemicals companies. It concentrates on megatrends like health, nutrition, resource efficiency and globalization. For instance, PLEXIGLAS, a material that you surely know, comes from Evonik.
“How do you make sure to stay on top of your field and to bring to the market cutting edge innovation? It is through R&D of course. Thus, visiting the site where things happen within Evonik was a very exciting opportunity.” - Antonin Fauret - LCC France
However, before going to Creavis the morning was dedicated to the presentation about special charity and entrepreneurial projects in Africa that are supported by Evonik. One example is the implementation of fish tanks for people in need in Zambia (Africa) in cooperation with a team of students (RWTH Aachen) of the international student organization Enactus.
In the afternoon, we moved on to specific Creavis topics. From 3D printing to Life-Cycle Management and biotechnologies, we were introduced to the main challenges of the company. A very insightful experience!
To conclude, here is a little riddle:
“What is all yellow, moves a lot and makes crazy noise?”
“A bee?” … No, rather a Dortmund supporter!
Indeed we can tell about that, because the peak point of the day occurred finally at the Dortmund football stadium during the match of Borussia Dortmund (sponsored by Evonik) against Freiburg. 2-1 for Dortmund – the social event finished the day very well; and all of us will remember this thrilling day for a long time.
