ABB & LCC Germany get-together
On April 26th the UNITECH Local Chapter Germany set out for their next company visit to one of the Corporate Partners. This time it was the turn of ABB in Ratingen, Germany.
The day started with an introduction about ABB and the location in Ratingen by Dr. Till Rümenapp, Head of R&D (Ratingen). After some general key facts about the company he explained in detail the different switchgear solutions and components ABB is producing for their own purposes as well as for other customers in Ratingen and worldwide. It was very interesting to see how these products differentiate and how ABB has gained expertise in the field of medium-voltage technologies.
After the presentation, the UNITECHers got the chance to have a look at the facilities in Ratingen. Split up in small groups and ABB employees showed each group around the factory for the switchgears and its components. Upcoming questions concerning the technology itself and the related production steps (e.g. the production in the clean room) were answered in detail so that the attendees got a very good impression of the work and challenges at the site in Ratingen. It was quite impressive to see how ABB has optimized their production processes.
“We are a fair and global company […] and innovation is the key for ABB”, Michael Bilinski, HR
The visit ended with a presentation about the entry-level career opportunities by HR employee Michael Bilinski. He explained explicitly the different needs of ABB and the possibilities for everybody to start his/her career at ABB. After a final concluding discussion with Dr. Matthis Laass, the group of UNITECHers finished the day with a visit of the old city of Düsseldorf and tasting one of the famous “Altbier”.
All in all, we as Local Chapter Germany would like to thank everyone at ABB, who has made the day so interesting, especially Dr. Matthis Laass for organizing the whole day.
