Hi, I am Alessia,
an Italian Management and Industrial Engineer. I really enjoy exchanging
experiences with people and that is why in the last years I travelled a lot to study and work. I am currently in Geneva at Wella Company undertaking my UNITECH Internship as a Finance intern for EMEA & APAC regions.
What attracted you to apply to the UNITECH programme?
Talking to several Alumni, I felt their passion and enthusiasm. I found in myself the same values that
I found in them and who in turn are finding these values in UNITECH. In my opinion, an experience is
worthwhile not only when it teaches new skills, but especially when it leaves its mark on people and
helps them improve themselves. UNITECH can give exactly that: a well-rounded experience under a
personal, academical and also professional dimension and the opportunity to give back what you
have learnt in your personal journey so far.
What did you enjoy most about your experience in the UNITECH programme, and how has the programme helped prepare you for the next steps in your career?
UNITECH gives you the opportunity to meet students who share the same interests, passions and
ambitions as you, as well as being part of a strong network of professionals. The three coaching
modules are one of the most unique and intense learning experiences that I’ve ever had: the perfect
opportunity to develop soft skills such as team building, problem solving and leadership but also to
touch backgrounds that are completely different from your own one and learn from them. I have
experienced that passions and enthusiasm are born when one discovers something new through
experiences and contexts never experienced before: and that is precisely why UNITECH could help
you discovering what you are most passionate about and what could be suitable for your future.
Tell us more about your Academic Exchange? Where was your academic exchange? What did you enjoy the most? Which subjects were the most challenging or interesting?
I did my Academic Exchange at UPC in Barcelona, specifically in the Master of Industrial
Engineering. Living in Barcelona was amazing: the city offers you everything you are looking
for, welcoming people, good food, excellent university with variety of courses both in English
and Spanish, and of course I have to admit the weather helped a lot too!
I really appreciated the various courses related to environmental and social sustainability
offered by UPC, I believe young professionals should be educated on these new trends in
order to better implement them once working in a company.
What are some of the biggest lessons you have learned in your career so far?
Be curious, do not be afraid to ask.
Everybody has always something to teach, as well as something to learn, showing interest in
what others are doing and trying to understand the main purpose behind what you are doing
is fundamental. Only by asking and discovering new things you can be able to understand
what you like and what you are better at. Being the newest in a company does not only mean
being the most unexperienced but gives you the opportunity to bring new points of view and
thus innovation.
